ok.

well volleyball tryouts just started today. im freshman trying to make a good team. does anyone have any tips for me? like what are the coaches expecting. and how do i do what they are expecting.

ok well first:

jump serving=

i have a pretty good serve.

but im trying to get my jump serve down.

ok this is what i do.

i stand far back as i can.

throw the ball up with both hands, with top spin.

3-step approach.

jump, hit it.

most of the time i have a not-so-good toss.

but usually when i do get a good toss.

i always hit it in the net.

any tips?

setting.

i always see how people set.

i understand how to set.

sort of.

but every time i set it.

i cant keep it in control.

and i cant set very far either.

my coach always tells me to push off with my legs.

but its not working for me.

any help?

hitting.

i basically am good at hitting.

just sometimes ill find myself ahead of the ball.

like when i hit, im not behind the ball when im suppose tho.

help anyone?

  1. ok i play volleyball but i dont have a good jumping serve,i serve really good but not jumping. The i could say that you try to look at the ball and jump when is the rigth moment!!I dont know if it would help but give it a try if you havent.BYE

  2. First thing: Where bright colored clothing and shirts with your name on the back. Coaches are always looking for people to stand out, and what better way than to be nice and bright!

Second: During drills, try to stay close to the coach, (unless they tend tp walk around) keeping close to all the action.

Finally: Try to be the last one collecting all the balls and the first one back from water breaks. This impresses the coach and makes you look more hardworking.

    Good Luck!

  3. This is a great question for me because I have played volley ball for several years.

When you set the ball, have your knees bent and as the ball is just above your head, push off, hitting the ball with your fingertips only.  Just above your forehead, your thumb and index finger, on both hands, should look like a triange as you make contact with the ball.

When you bump, make sure you don't swing your arms.  When you make contact with the ball, your arms should be parallel to the ground.

  4. you can always go to a few clinics. they always help me.  for a top spin jump serve, i usually toss with one hand- if your right handed, toss it with your right hand, and start with your right foot in frony. then toss it high and in front of you. do your approach like you would in a hit- left right left, jump hit. it might take a while to get the hang of. but just practice your toss. make sure you have enough time to do your full approach. it should land about 10 feet in front of you.

im not much of a setter, but your hands should be ball shaped. your writs should make wrinkles. like if you put your hands on your hips, see the wrinkles on your writs? it should look like that. the ball should contact you right above your hairline. push your hands out as far as you can and make sure that when you release, your hands are even with each other. it should sort of look like your doing a superman pose with your arms out in front of you. i usually hop a little to make it go higher and out. you can practice control by setting to yourself or against a wall.

for hitting, just keep your eye on the ball. if youre doing a 4 step approach, the first step should be for timing, the second for direction, (wherever the set is, thats where you wanna go), and the last to is just to load and explode. if you're behind the ball too much, try scooting forward. hope i helped!

  5. 1. On the jump serve: I just learned to jump serve from the Midwest Volleyball Camp.

Keep all spin off your toss, a little (but not too much) is okay on a topspin jump serve, but a no-no on floater jump. Make contact with the ball as close to the heel of your hand as possible (I realize that it's not always possible), closer to your body than on a hit.

    2. Setting: It's always come relatively easy to me

Make sure your hands are even and above your forehead instead of in front of your face. If you need to use your thumbs to control the ball, so be it (people tell me to keep the thumbs back but that doesn't help). Set using the pads of your fingers instead of the fingertips. Finally, push out with your arms too, making sure your elbows are always high.

    3. Hitting: My favorite

Just communicate with your setter to ensure you know how far off the net the set will be. You've probably heard this for a while, but just stay behind the ball. Don't hesitate... if you need to rollshot or tip, do so, because even then you can get kills. If you ever find yourself in front of the ball, then give your wrist a massive flick (you should be flicking your wrists on any hit anyway).

    All right... good luck.

  6. i can deffinatly help with setting! well firt you want the shape of your hands to be about the size of one panel of a volleyball, next you want to have your hands angled in a way where you could be drinking from a jug of water and if there were water in the jug you wouldnt want it going down your shirt. and you dont want your palms on the ball nore just your fingertips you want the palms of your hands if that makes sense
