Wellington North Open 2012: Alyse Derby topples Christine Dowler to secure Women’s Singles title
Alyse Derby, a talented player from New Zealand, showed her elevated craft and stole the limelight as she secured Women’s Singles title after beating Christine Dowler in the final encounter at the Wellington North Open 2012 on Saturday, July 21, in New Zealand.
The spirited Alyse remained uncontrollable throughout the tournament as she did not let any of her opponents to dominate the game and eventually emerged as the title winner.
The in-form Alyse showed her elevated skills in the most impressive manner and did not face even a slight trouble from her rival in the entire battle. She ended it up in straight games with a superb score on the board.
Dowler, on the contrary, failed to put up impressive show as he could not get the bird early and also committed many un-forced mistakes and eventually lost the contest without winning any set.
Alyse did not take much time in taking control of rallies in the opening set as she played controlled badminton and set up an early lead on the board.
The confused Dowler failed to create gaps in her challenger’s court and also failed to maintain her positive run.
In the meanwhile, Alyse remained positive and composed and took a comfortable position in the game by taking a good lead.
After the break, Alyse did not lose her focus at any stage and kept the pace of rallies high in order to push her rival on back foot.
The impressive Alyse did not face any trouble in winding up the opening game with a spectacular margin of 21-9.
In the second set, Dowler also showed a little aggression as she played fast and attacking badminton in opening rallies and remained close to her opponent on score board until the one-minute mid-game break.
After the interval, Alyse stretched the gap on board by playing controlled game and did not let her rival to draw near. She was in commanding position and easily wrapped up the set with a superb margin of 21-15.
Alyse won the Women’s Singles title after finishing off the final battle in straight sets with a staggering 21-9 and 21-15 margin on the board.
