Day 1, Stumps: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 246-6 (Ross Taylor 78, Daniel Vettori 38*)

Rampant Pakistani bowlers have given their team a great start on day one of the second and final Test against New Zealand at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
After winning the toss, the home captain Daniel Vettori elected to bat first on a wicket that was expected to help the bowlers in the opening session at least. The touring bowling line-up, which skittled out the hosts for a meagre 110 in the second innings
in the first Test at Hamilton, continued their impressive run at the Basin Reserve.
The danger man Brendon McCullum who had looked in imperious touch in the first Test was sent packing by spearhead of the pace attack Umar Gul for only 2 runs. He shouldered arms to an in-swinger from Gul and paid the price.
From there on, the second wicket pair of Kane Williamson and opener Martin Guptill batted with authority adding 43 runs in the opening hour of play. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 had more joy coming their way as Gul picked up his second scalp of the day when Williamson edged
one to Adnan Akmal behind the stumps.
The impressive youngster, who scored a ton on his Test debut in 2010, perished for 21 runs off 34 balls with two fours.
From there on, the tourists went about their task in a disciplined manner nipping out some prized wickets in the process. The third wicket to fall was that of Guptill whose attempted cut was taken behind the stumps by Akmal who was enjoying a good day with
the gloves. Guptill scored 29 off 97 balls including 5 fours.
The game turned in Pakistan’s favour when Tanvir Ahmed sent Jesse Ryder packing for his second successive golden duck. The left-hander feathered an edge through to a delirious Akmal.
James Franklin added 68 runs for the fifth wicket with Ross http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 who looked defiant at one end. Franklin scored 33 before guiding the ball into Akmal’s gloves giving the keeper his fourth catch of the day.
Taylor’s defiance was finally ended soon after the tea break when the right-hander went for a booming drive which he edged through to a beaming Akmal who took his fifth catch- the first time he scalped five in a Test innings.
The hosts finished the day one at 246-6 with captain Daniel Vettori and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Reece-Young-c2302 unbeaten on the crease. The duo has so far added 66 runs for the seventh wicket and will look to take the score past 300 to challenge the Pakistani batting line-up.
