Wellington tames Northland with 43-19 in ITM Cup - Rugby News
Wellington has battled past the Northlanders by a huge difference of 43-19 on August 10 at Westpac Stadium. Wellington proved too strong for the Northlanders, who displayed a sluggish game in the 8th round of the ITM Cup 2011. Wellington scored
six tries to produce a monstrous total against the rusty Northlanders to level the 16 points run of the Auckland side in the tournament.
Wellington played equally well on their attacking and defending lines and remained successful in putting extra pressure on Northland. They dominated the match since the very first kick and left their rivals chasing them in most of the game.
Wellington skipper, Jeremy Thrush, and Cory Jane had a wonderful collaboration to disrupt the rivals with top quality plays. They produced swift passes, sharp deceptions and long runs to help their side phenomenal victory over Northland.
Alipate Leiua and Lima Sopoaga really played havoc with the Northlander line. The pair accumulated 23 points in their team’s total. Sopoaga was brilliant with his boots for Wellington and he kicked each and everything accurately as he guided the ball into
Northland’s goal posts five times in the match.
Frae Wilson, Victor Vito, and Dane Coles also elevated their side with one each tries to grab a bonus point along with victory. Meanwhile, Lachie Munro had a great day for losing side Northland. He scored 14 individual points for his team but other players
failed to help him in the match. Jared Payne, the skipper of Northland scored only a try for his team.
