Wellington v Central Districts – HRV Cup, 2012/13 – Match Update – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 win by 53 runs
An unbeaten half-century from Chris Woakes, followed by 2-wicket hauls from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Central-Districts-c777 Stags, in their match during the ongoing HRV Cup,
played today on December 26 at the Basin Reserve in Wellington.
With the match reduced to 18 overs per side, the visitors won the toss and chose to field first, but http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tarun-Nethula-c2647, and Adam Milne all claimed one wicket each,
but they all proved excessively expensive – Kain leaked 42 runs in 3 overs, Nethula conceded 49 in 4, while Milne bled 52 in 3.
Opening batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Papps-c1961 (14) joined forces for a 48-run second-wicket
stand.
Trego swept Papps off the pitch in the 7th over, and followed it up the wicket of Ryder 2 overs later, leaving the Firebirds at 104 for 3. However, Woakes took it from there, and his unbeaten 55 propelled the Firebirds up to a formidable total.
Wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Luke-Ronchi-c73300 (19) joined Woakes for a 33-run partnership, and following the departure of Ronchi, dismissed by Nethula, Woakes and skipper Grant Elliott (35) established a 5th-wicket stand worth 75 runs. The captain was eventually snapped
up by Milne, and by the end of 18 overs, with Woakes and Scott Kuggeleijn (1*) at the crease, Wellington posted a daunting final total of 213.
The target eventually proved too high for the Stags to handle, with Mark Houghton (4-0-34-2) and Luke Woodcock (2-0-24-2) on the prowl.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-How-c1707 (14), followed by a 56-run stand with Will Young (20) after How had been removed by Dane Hutchinson.
Both Sinclair and Young were dismissed within two overs of each other, and while skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kieran-Noema-Barnett-c71440 (33) attempted to keep the innings going, his solitary efforts failed to galvanise the remainder of the batting order. Wicketkeeper batsman Kruger
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Carl-Cachopa-c49207 (6*) and Kain (6*) at the crease, the Stags finished at 160, with Wellington claiming a 53-run victory.
