Wellington v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Central-Districts-c777 – Plunket Shield, 2012/13 – Match Update – Wellington Firebirds win by 7 wickets
Michael Papps and centurion Scott Kuggeleijn held firm at the crease and batted through the final day of play, leading the Wellington Firebirds to a 7-wicket win over the Central District Stags, in their Plunket Shield match, played at the Karori Park in
Wellington, from December 10 to 13.
The Firebirds’ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Gillespie-c1904 (11-2-56-3), Scott Kuggeleijn (10-1-53-3), and Chris Woakes (14.1-3-51-2) had ensured that the team got off to a promising start, after having won the toss and chosen to field first. Barring the efforts of Will Young (121) and
skipper Jamie How (45), the Stags’ batsmen failed to step up to the challenge for the most part, and ended up bowled for a first innings total of 260.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 then proceeded to solidify their dominant stance, with Michael Papps (117) and Jesse Ryder (162) putting the Firebirds well on their way to a good total. Debutant AY Patel (21-3-62-3), Andrew Lamb (20-4-76-3), and Roald Badenhorst (12-3-44-2)
all attempted to compensate for the Stags' average batting performance, but Woakes (41) and Jeetan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 (40*) carried on after Papps and Ryder had been dislodged, and got their team up to a total of 403 after which they were all out.
The Stags fared better in their second innings, with four batsmen managing to contribute half-tons. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-How-c1707 (51), and Peter Trego (59) all contributed sizeably to the team total, and despite the continued assaults of
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JS-Patel-c1747 (29-8-66-3), and Woakes (23.4-5-84-2), managed to work their way up to 389, setting the Firebirds a final target of 247 to chase.
The later part of the third day saw the Central Districts’ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Josh-Brodie-c1736 (4) lbw in the very first over, while Lamb followed up with the wickets of skipper
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 it out at the crease until the end of the day, and got the team up to 53 for 3.
The final day saw Papps (77*) and Kuggeleijn (142*) fixed, unwavering, at the crease. The Stags’ bowlers remained impotent as the Firebirds’ duo set up an unbeaten 214-run stand, which easily got their team up to 248, with 7 wickets remaining.
