Wellness puppy food giving my pup soft poo?

I have a 13 week old puppy. I just switched him over to wellness puppy food about 3-4 days ago. As soon as I started giving it to him his p**p got very mushy and light in color. It's very hard to pick up out of the grass. I thought it would begin to harden but it's still soft. Is this supposed to happen? Should I switch him, if so to what?

  1. Whenever you make any switch in dog food, you need to do it very gradually.  Ideally, the change should take about 10 days.  You start with adding no more than 10% of the new food, then increase it gradually.  If you don't, you've seen what happens.  If you switch it again, you're going to make the problem even worse.  You can try giving him a bit of canned pumpkin to help (about 1 tbsp) - plain pumpkin, not pie filling with spices added.

  2. If you don't switch the food gradually then it can cause the poo to become soft. Wait a week or so and it should return to normal. You can also try mixing a little of the old food in smaller and smaller amounts for 2 weeks.

  3. wellness is a excellent brand your doing good by keeping the puppy on that but it will take up to two weeks for the its digestive track to start properly digesting the food your doing good keep it up

  4. I hope you didn't just give him the new food without gradually mixing the two for a week or two.  If you did this, then go back to the old food and after a few days of normal poops, start adding the Wellness about 25% for 5 days then 50-50 for 5 days then 75% for 5 days then if all is going well, you can just feed the Wellness.

It's funny but my I swear by Canidae and my dog has been getting alittle soft stool from it even though it's still the original formula so I started adding Wellness and the now his p**p is normal and fine.  I think I'm just going to  feed the Wellness when the Canidae runs out.
