Wells Fargo Championship: Jim Furyk returns to the field of his victory - Golf News
Jim Furyk will return to the field of the Wells Fargo Championship at the Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte, where he already recorded a win in the 2006 edition of the tournament.
That was not the first time when he performed brilliantly in the tournament, as he already had a second-place finish in 2005.
He was tied for the top position at the end of 72 holes, along with Sergio Garcia and Vijay Singh. Therefore, the game was forced to enter the playoffs, where Garcia was eliminated after a bogey on the first extra hole.
While playing the second hole, Furyk missed the par putt and recorded a bogey. Meanwhile, Singh parred the hole and snatched the victory from him.
This year, Furyk is entering the event with a decent track record on the 2012 PGA Tour. In the eight events that he has played so far, he has recorded a total of five top-15 finishes.
His best finish of the season came in the Transitions Championship, when he took the second place after losing to Luke Donald in the playoffs.
Right after the Transitions, he appeared in the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard and tied for the 11th spot, followed by another 11th place finish in the Masters Tournament.
His good form continued in the RBC Heritage, and he tied for the eighth position on the leaderboard.
For that reason, he is now being rated among the favourites to win the Wells Fargo Championship for the second time in his career.
According to the Quail Hollow Country Club’s stats, Furyk is ranked first in the driving accuracy that gives him a huge advantage over his competitors because of the difficulty of the course on the tee.
He has recorded a total of 26 professional wins in his career, including 16 that came on the PGA Tour.
The Tour Championship in September 2010 was the last tournament that witnessed him end his tournament campaign on top of the leaderboard. Thereafter, he came close to winning several times, but failed.
However, he is now confident to make a strong run at Quail Hollow and end his winless streak on the PGA Tour.
