Wells Fargo Championship: Webb Simpson and Bill Haas ready for the home event – Golf News
Webb Simpson will be enjoying his favourite stop on the PGA Tour when he will tee off at the Wells Fargo Championship on Thursday, May 3, 2012.
Simpson resides just one mile from the venue of the event, Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.
"I only live about a mile from there, so that will be nice," Simpson said.
Last year, he was tied for the 21st position in the tournament after carding an eight-under par tournament score.
This year, he is again looking to make a good finish because of his regained form on the PGA Tour. Zurich Classic of New Orleans was the last tournament he played and was tied for the 13th position.
He has played a total of 10 events so far and registered three top-10 finishes
At the same time, Bill Haas will also join him in the tournament that is one of his favourites because he was born in Charlotte.
Therefore, he believes that it will be fun to play in a city he was born in. Moreover, he has pretty good experience at the venue in the past, which makes him like the tournament.
In the last four appearances in the Wells Fargo Championship, he has been ranked in the top 30 on the leaderboard.
Last year, he stood fourth after carding a 13-under par 275. He was just two strokes behind the playoff duos, Lucas Glover and Jonathan Byrd.
"I've had some decent finishes there, and I've had some bad ones," Haas said. "It's close to home, and I like the people that are up there at Quail. They are all good people and are good to me, so it makes it easier to go tournaments like that".
"I've played there as much as maybe Greensboro, because I played there twice when I was an amateur," he added. "That makes you feel pretty good when you have that many rounds under your belt".
In 2012, he has played a total of nine events so far and has recorded two top-10 finishes that also include a victory in the Northern Trust Open.
In the last tournament, RBC Heritage, he missed the cut after carding a back-to-back 74 in the opening two rounds.
Therefore, he is hopeful to return to his form through the tournament at his birthplace.
