I'd like to fin doubt the pro's and con's of each bank. Which one should I go to start banking?

I just turned 18.

My family has always used Bank of America, but I'm the more skeptical one of the family and need to check things out for myself.

  1. To be certain of your decision, you really need to carefully check each bank's website and compare features and costs of accounts.

Having said that, my own personal experience with Bank of America has been terrible, although I have a friend who has no trouble as your family.

BofA is known in some places for the poor attitude of the staff in bank branches. I had a big problem with them when I made a mistake and called them to report it, the woman  I spoke to on the phone entered my story into their system and switched two bank names, and later BofA people were quite rude and refused to even check out the facts of my story.  Even BofA's website protection for people with accounts is strange:  they ask you nine (9) questions, most of which had no answer for me, such as the location of a vacation house (I don't have one).  Other banks have other methods to keep your password safe without making you give an answer to questions that have no answer in your life.

There may be differences in fees charged for services you need; you may someday need a cashier's check for example or want a credit card, so compare these costs also.  Then pick Wells Fargo!
