Welsh Cob or Pony?

I have always wondered what is the difference between a welsh cob and a welsh pony??? Also im thinking about getting a miniature horse...should I get a welsh or a mini?

  1. The differences are based on proportions. For example, ponies have shorter legs compared to horses. cobs are types of horses (like palomino and polo) cobs have characteristics like ponies, but are still more proportional. You can have a 13 hand Thoroughbred and it still won't be considered a pony.


  2. A Welsh Cob (Section D) is a division or type of Welsh pony.  Cobs are generally stockier in proportion to their size, and may resemble a draft pony in proportion.  A Welsh cob would likely be able to carry or pull a little more weight than other types of Welsh which are sections A, B and C.  Section C is "Welsh pony of Cob type" not as heavy as the section D.  

    What do you want the pony to do?  Mini's are more limited since they are so much smaller.  But for a companion they are smaller.  So this all depends on what you had in mind for the pony.
