Welsh forward Ryan Jones signs new deal with the Ospreys
Under-fire Welsh back-row forward Ryan Jones has committed his future to the Ospreys, by signing a new four year deal that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2014.
Ryan Jones was delighted to sign a new contract after a torrid week while on international duty with Wales.
The player was publically stripped of the captaincy after leading out the Welsh team in their 16-16 draw against Fiji on Friday 19 November. Jones got a crucial penalty that allowed the island nation to
tie up the score.
The Welsh have promoted hooker Matthew Rees and he will captain the team against the All Blacks. Jones may be left out of the squad to face New Zealand after his poor performance in last week’s Test.
However the Ospreys will be delighted that they have managed to retain the services of Jones.
The club has already lost British and Irish Lion Gavin Henson who joined Aviva Premiership side Saracens and talented utility player James Hook, who will leave the Welsh club at the end of the season.
Jones admitted that he had never considered moving from the Ospreys.
"The Ospreys are my region, my team, and that will always be the case even when I've finished playing. I'm delighted that I've been able to agree this new contract and get everything signed up. I've always
had fantastic support from everybody involved with the Ospreys and it's where I feel is home, not only for me, but also for my family.”
Jones gave the Welsh side a further boost by stating that he wanted to remain at the club for the rest of his career. "I still believe that we are on the verge of something special with the set-up we have
here. The players and the coaches are working hard together and I want to be a part of it. I don't want to play anywhere else, this is where I want to see out my career," he said.
