Welsh golf icon Sue Turner passes away at 50
After fighting severe illness for months, Britain and Ireland’s Curtis Cup Manager, Sue Turner has passed away. She was 50 at the time of her demise.
Turner gave her valuable services to golf for years and had been superb in her managerial responsibilities for the Curtis Cup team.
Turner represented Wales in 6 events. She first played for her country in 1982 and her stint finally came to an end in 1994.
She was successful in terms of leading her team. She grabbed the headlines after she racked up two titles as captain in the Home Internationals.
Turner was going to give her services as a manager to Britain and Ireland’s Curtis Cup team from June 8-10.
The team comprising female amateur golfers was scheduled to play against the United States in Scotland.
Officials of Welsh golf expressed their sadness over the unexpected news of Turner’s death, saying she was going to continue serving golf for several more years.
The news of Turner’s demise was released by the Royal & Ancient, an entity that oversees the sport in the region.  The Royal & Ancient informed that the Welsh golf stalwart died of debilitating illness.
The current captain of Curtis Cup, Tegwen Matthews shared his feeling with the rest of the golfing community, saying he did not expect that Turner would leave such a huge impact on the sport and her fans.
He said that he did not have words to express his feelings about someone who inspired so many. "Needless to say I am absolutely speechless and devastated,” Matthews said.
Giving his condolences to her family, Matthews stated that the whole golfing community should back up Turner’s family and friends.
He further said that he was heavily influenced by Turner’s obsession with golf, as she worked for the sport selflessly.
"Sue Turner's passion for her family, Wales, golf and life itself was intoxicating and infectious. Sue without a doubt was the most successful Welsh captain ever and her rapport and motivation of all the girls in her teams was second to none," he shared.
Speaking of the Curtis Cup team, Matthews said he and Turner were passionately working together for the next event against the United States.
He added, "Sue and I were so looking forward to the Curtis Cup and I am extremely heavy-hearted that she will not be there with me".
