Welsh midfielder David Vaughan exits relegated Blackpool, in search for Premier League football
Blackpool midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Vaughan has turned down a new contract offer by the club and will be leaving in the summer transfer window in hopes of securing a place with an English Premier League side.
Vaughan’s current contract with Blackpool expired at the end of the season and since he has not signed a new contract, he is now a free agent.
While the new contract offered by Blackpool boss Ian Holloway was very attractive, the 28-year-old revealed he wanted to play English Premier League football.
Blackpool finished 19th on the English Premier League table with just 39 points and were relegated to the Championship.
The Welshman admitted the decision to leave Blackpool was a tough one but he had eventually decided on a move to an English Premier League side.
Vaughan said while speaking to reporters:
“It was a very good offer and it was a tough decision, but I just want to stay in the Premier League and test myself at the highest level.
It was unfortunate that we couldn't quite stay up last season and that was a big disappointment.”
He said he hoped Holloway would understand his choice of making the move to the English Premier League, instead of staying with the relegated Blackpool.
Vaughan credited Holloway for giving him the opportunity to play in the highest tier of football in England.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wales-c3041 midfielder revealed:
“My three years at Blackpool have been great and if it wasn't for Blackpool I may never have played in the Premier League, so I have a lot to thank the club and the manager (Ian Holloway) for.”
Vaughan singed with Blackpool in the summer of 2008 from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Sociedad for a fee of £200,000 on a two year deal.
Vaughan signed with Blackpool when they were in the Championship and played an important part in their promotion to the Premier League.
In his second season at the club, Vaughan made 42 appearances in all competitions and found the back of the net twice.
This season he made 35 appearances, managing the same number of goals but failed to make an impact as Blackpool were relegated.
Vaughan insisted the desire for a move to the Premier League had nothing to do with a bigger pay check; instead it showed his desire for top flight football.
He continued:
“It's not about money - I'm a human being with ambitions.
Blackpool's been great but I think people realise that if I want to take my career on and play for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 I have to be in the Premier League.”
So far Sunderland and West Bromwich Albion have shown interest in signing the former Blackpool midfielder in the summer.
Not only is Vaughan highly experienced, he will not cost anything.
