Welsh player Gareth Delve gears up to make place in national squad for RWC 2011 - Rugby News
Welsh player Gareth Delve has been geared up to book his seat for the Rugby World Cup 2011. Delve stated on August 3 that he will make his best efforts to impress the Wales’ selectors during the warm up matches. Welsh side will play three tests before Rugby
World Cup 2011 against England. The first of the three matches will be played on Saturday, August 6. The 28-year-old Delve is motivated to attract the attention of national coach Warren Gatland when he makes the announcement of 30-member squad for global showpiece
during the third week of August.
The veteran player has played for a variety of sides in his decade long rugby career including his national side, Wales. He started off his club rugby career with Bath in 2001 and continued until the end of 2007. He shifted towards Gloucester for three years
and participated in 56 games for the club.
In his last big move, Gareth Delve joined the Australian Super Rugby derby Melbourne Rebels. He was given the charge of the newly established club but failed to achieve any extraordinary success in the maiden season of Super Rugby. The Rebels concluded their
first ever journey of Super Rugby with 13th position on the point’s tables.
Delve has represented his national side in 11 games so far and has earned just five points for his team. Talking to reporters, Delve said that he wants to fulfil his long desire of representing Wales in a World Cup. He added that, “It is great to be involved
and have a chance to get on the plane for New Zealand. I want the chance to get out on to the field this month and show what I can do. This is one of the fittest squads I have ever been involved with, and it has been hard getting up to their standard.”
He further said that, “Hopefully, now I can start to have a bit more impact on the place and try to show I have learned a few things and I am a better player.”
Rugby World Cup will be underway this year on September 9 in New Zealand.
