Welsh players insist that they will not be affected by Great Britain Olympic team talks
Welsh internationals, including the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Gunter, Joe Allen and Steve Morison have gone on to insist that they will not be affected by all the arguments taking place over the formation of a unified Great Britain football team for the 2012 Olympics.
The Welsh FA went on to team up with the Scottish and the Northern Irish FA, as they went on to insist that it would be foolish to form a unified Olympic team, mainly due to the fact that the individuality of the nations and their sovereignty would be affected
by it.
Despite al l these claims by the Welsh Football Association, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Barry-c14423 have both been spotted in pictures wearing the Great Britain football kit.
Despite this fact, players such as Gunter believe that this has not caused a break out in the current team and that things are operating just as they were prior to the pictures being taken.
Gunter is quoted to have said: “To be honest living in Nottingham I didn't know they had worn the shirts.”
"I didn't know it had become this big situation and I haven't seen any of the photos, I don't think there is an opinion among the players and no-one has spoken about it.
"We had a talk about how the FAW can't support the idea of Welsh players playing in the GB team and that was all that was said and that is the only comment there has been.”
"We understand it is a big talking point as the Olympics is a big event. But we have a game to focus on, not something that happens in seven or eight months' time."
At the moment, almost all of the Welsh players are more focused on getting their act together for their upcoming games, instead of focusing on the pictures that were taken, or the chaos that the various FA’s are brewing up.
It is easy to understand how the sovereignty of the various nations would be affected should a joint team be formed and at the same time, a number of players would not even be considered for the team, since it would comprise of only the best players in the
country.
As a result, not only is it going to be a bad decision to form a Great Britain team on behalf of the individuality of the nations, but the fact that at least 40-60 decent players would be left out in the dark during the Olympics, just goes to show that it
really isn’t worth it.
