Although Wales’ recent form isn’t going well but Welsh coach Warren Gatland still has trust of Welsh people on him.
Wales has only able to win five matches out of their last 18 matches and this performance doesn’t show the class of a rugby-loving country.
There performance in the recently ended autumn internationals was also very bad, where they were not able to win any single match against the visiting Southern Hampshire teams at their home grounds.
They lost against New Zealand, Australia and South Africa but their worst performance was come against a very weaker side Fiji, where they only able to play a draw match, which they should have won.
Despite this poor form, Welsh public still showed their trust on Gatland in a recently conducted survey. This survey was taken right after the defeats in autumn internationals but still 80% people said he should remain on the position, which he is currently
holding.
A same type of survey was also taken for Wales’ former coach Gareth Jenkins in 2007, when Wales was failed to qualify for the 2nd round of the 2007 world cup, and he lost his position on the basis of survey, as people didn’t show their trust on
him.
But Gatland, who belongs to the country of All Blacks, clearly has enough belief of public, who may be don’t want to change coach, when the grand world cup is only 10 months away. But Gatland’s position is secure until world cup 2011.
Gatland has also signed a contract with Welsh Rugby Union last month, which will retain him as the coach until 2015 but that is based on his performance, if he doesn’t perform well then he could be sacked.
There were some more questions in the survey as well. Fans were also asked about supporting staff of Gatland. But they failed to win the trust of public, as public doesn’t want supporting staff to carry-on their duties.
Rob Howley, who is working as attack coach of team, was the most disliked person, as more than two third participants believe that he should make way for some other person.
On the other hand, Robin McBryde, who is forwards coach of Welsh national team, succeeded to take the favour of more than 50% people. Only 43% people believe that he should be changed.
Wales’ recently appointed captain Matthew Rees also has the trust of Welsh public, as three quarters of the audience said, he should carry on his duties and should be given a fair chance.
Stephen Jones has chosen as the best fly half for Wales when they were asked about the best player at fly half position.
Survey also included one question about Wales’ expected performance in the next year’s world cup. More than 60% people believe that Wales will be able to pass the first round but will be eliminated in the quarter-finals.
The final question of the survey was about Gavin Henson, who has been out from rugby since March 2009. More than 72% voted in favour of Henson, which shows that many people still want to see him in team.
