Welshman Daniel Wells says Ronnie O’Sullivan has lost invincibility - World Snooker news
Welsh number one cueist, Denial Wells, has remarked about the snooker legend, Ronnie O’Sullivan that he has lost his snooker invincibility and he does not scare players like him anymore. He believes that not playing many tournaments in the snooker season
might have brought him back to the qualifying situations.
Legendary snooker icon, O’Sullivan, was at the brink of retirement from World Snooker but somehow he reversed his decision right before the World Snooker Championship 2011, after he consulted Dr Steve Peters, a sports psychiatrist and returned to the game.
However, he did not play many events in the last season that affected his performance.
The Welshman said, “I think Ronnie has lost his invincibility. Don’t get me wrong – he’s brilliant but he has not been playing enough tournaments and he has not had the form. Ronnie was not turning up for tournaments, like the China Open and the PTCs, but,
on a website at the moment, his ranking puts him outside the top 16. Now he has to say he is going to these tournaments or his ranking is definitely going to suffer.”
Wells added, “He definitely does not want to start qualifying because there is a difference between playing in front of 2,000 people and the TV cameras and two people watching in Sheffield. Hendry said he would retire if he went out of the top 16 so now
he has to start giving it a go.”
After losing in the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship 2011, Stephen Hendry also decided to retire from World Snooker but he cancelled his decision and opted to continue playing. The veteran Scotsman holds the record of winning the most world titles,
after beating the best snooker players in the world.
The 22-year-old Wells qualified again for the main tour of the 2011-12 snooker season, on the basis of the National Governing Body (NGB) nominations and will begin his pro campaign next month. Wells grabbed the Welsh title after defeating David John with
the score line of 8-4. He is currently ranked number one in the Welsh national snooker rankings.
