  1. 5'8 and walking around at 150 perfect for the welter weight division. What you want to do a join a boxing club. look one up thats around your area. Then get a coach

  2. there are two parts to the welterweight division

    Light welterweight/141 lbs

    and

    Welterweight/152 lbs

you would start fighting as an amatuer boxer by joining a boxing gym and regerstering with USA Boxing. the boxing gym you join should be able to help you do that.

  3. Welterweights must be above 140 pounds, and they can weigh no more than the 147 pound limit.  As for turning pro; get a good trainer who knows you, possibly get a good conditioning expert who will tell you the right weight to fight at, get a good promoter who will not rush you, but at the same time, will get you good fights when the time is right, and get a good manager that you trust and will not steal from you.  It sounds a lot easier than it actually is- many boxers will testify to this.  Also, it would be VERY beneficial for you to have amateur experience.  There are some top fighters that have little to no amateur background, but the majority of the top guys have had good experience in the amateurs before turning pro.

  4. If you walk around at 150 you should cut down to at least 140 and probably 135. You can lose 8-10 pounds of water with one workout. I f you have a little body fat to lose 135 would probably be a good weight for you.
