Wen Hsing, Yu Chin topple Shizuka Matsuo, Mami Naito in quarter-final round – Singapore Open Update
Chinese Taipei received a semi-final round entry in Women’s Doubles event of Li Ning Singapore Open as its prime team Cheng Wen Hsing-Chien Yu Chin stamped Shizuka Matsuo-Mami Naito on June 22, 2012.
This quarter-final contest was staged in Singapore Indoor Stadium and both teams entertained the spectators for 55 minutes before putting final figures of 21-18, 16-21 and 21-14.
World Number 11 Taipei duo played flawless badminton and stunned their higher ranked opponents while the Japanese, who were hot favourites in this contest, could not live up to the expectations and crashed out of the event.
The twosome of Wen Hsing and Yu Chin laid foundation of this crucial win by clinching very first match point.
They employed unique tactics to evaluate mental and physical strength of their challengers.
They launched a brisk attack and gained a five-point advantage in 7-2 total. This initial lead helped them to finish opening part of the set with 11-8 margin.
After the interval, they lost grip for a short period of time but couple of uninterrupted rallies reinstated their supremacy.
They made difference with 16-13 and then doubled the impact by registering winning figure of 21-18.
Next game completely changed the scenario as Shizuka Matsuo-Mami Naito made a comeback in splendid fashion.
Though, they remained bit confuse after first set loss but they proved their mettle in later part of the game.
They started the second set by losing valuable points in the beginning which resulted in 4-7 score.
However, the Japanese girls geared up themselves and reached at decent position of 11-10 before mid-game break.
They swiftly raised their total to 15 after interval and when their competitors narrowed the gap at 16-15 they jumped at 19 by grabbing three points in a row.
This proved final blow to the opposing team who knelt down after reading 21-16 margin on the board.
Unexpectedly, Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito turned sitting ducks in the decider and Taipei campaigners hunted them down with great ease.
Wen Hsing and Yu Chin sealed a commendable victory with seven-point difference in 21-14 and setup a semi-final clash with Meiliana Jauhari-Greysia Polii of Indonesia.
