Wendy Rodriguez captures Women’s 50m freestyle gold: Day four – Venezuela Open Championships
Wendy Rodriguez of PIBOL captured gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle in the 14 and above category on fourth day of the Venezuela Open Championships in Maracaibo on May 20.
The 25-year-old Rodriguez stayed considerably ahead of her challengers in the first half of the single lap event and with her epic pace, she reached the finishing end for gold medal of the discipline.
Her scintillating effort remained just one stroke ahead of her following challenger as she tapped the wall with an effort of 26.83 seconds.
The champion was followed by Erika Torrellas of MAXVI, who stayed nearly 0.11 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing blockade for silver medal by producing a time of 26.94 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Ximena Vilar of HHISP, who stayed marginally behind and settled on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by submitting a time of 27.05 seconds.
The gold medallist was trailed by Valentina Grillo of CIVMI, who was just 0.30 seconds apart and hit the wall with the timing of 27.35 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth position of the discipline was secured by Eugeni Sebastiani of EMIL, who stayed two strokes apart and reported a time of 27.70 seconds.
After that, the crowd witnessed phenomenal efforts of HHISP’s Adolfo Delgado in the Men’s 50m backstroke. The 22-year-old Delgado stayed prominently ahead of his following rival and proved his mettle for gold medal with the timing of 27.30 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Jesus Lopez of CNCDC, who stayed 0.26 seconds apart and occupied silver medal of the event with the timing of 27.56 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Erick Perez of HHISP, who stayed 0.28 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and hit the wall with the timing of 27.84 seconds for bronze medal.
Perez remained 0.17 seconds faster from his teammate, Robinson Molina, who finished his swim in fourth best place by reporting a time of 28.01 seconds.
Furthermore, the championship ended after the completion of all listed events while the position holders were awarded accolades after the session.
