Wendy Trott acquires Women’s 400m freestyle gold: Day two - South African LC Nationals
Wendy A Trott of WPA-WP acquired gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on second day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Tuesday, April 17.
The 22-year-old Trott demonstrated her noteworthy efforts in the mediocre-distance freestyle event. With her epic start, she gained a comfortable lead over her challengers in the first lap of the event.
With her phenomenal efforts, she completed her first lap of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 01.83 seconds. She was followed by Michelle Weber of KZNA-KZ, who stayed nearly half body length behind and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute
02.16 seconds.
Trott continued her smothering efforts in the second round of the event, where she strengthened her lead over her challenger and ended her first half of the race with the timing of 2 minutes and 05.86 seconds.
Her impeccable effort remained nearly one second ahead of Weber, who hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 06.68 seconds.
The same continued in third round, where Trott gave no chance to her closest challenger to fight back as she extended her lead to almost 1.20 seconds by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 37.91 seconds. Subsequently, Weber ended her third round of the event
by posting a second fastest time of 2 minutes and 39.04 seconds.
With her persistent efforts, Trott dominated the final round of the race as she ended her swim in a time of 4 minutes and 12.86 seconds.
Her gruelling effort remained nearly three seconds ahead of 15-year-old Weber, who tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 4 minutes and 15.91 seconds for silver medal.
The third position of the discipline was secured by Jessica Pengelly of NTS-NT, who stayed 0.44 seconds behind the second position holder and ended her swim in a time of 4 minutes and 16.35 seconds.
The crowd was overjoyed with the ruthless efforts of all national swimmers in the 400m discipline while the championship will conclude on April 22 after the completion of all planned events.
