Wenger Talks About Ferguson And Walcott’s Improvement Ahead Of United Clash
Two old rivals will once again test their wits against one another as Manchester United take on Arsenal in the Premier League. Arsenal are at the top of the English Premier League, just one point ahead of second place Manchester United, who happen to have
a game in hand. With Chelsea drawing 1-1 with Tottenham on Sunday, Arsenal and United can rule them out of the title race for now, as they slip to fourth place. Third place Manchester City are however up a spot, with a win over West Ham.
Arsene Wenger was questioned about his feud with Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and the Frenchman dismissed such talks. Wenger insisted that it was more professional than personal and revealed that the media played a big role in such events.
He admitted that he had gotten in arguments with the Scot, but it was a heat of the moment thing. The Arsenal manager maintained that it was nothing personal and that he had the same attitude towards other managers.
Wenger told reporters, “It's always for me in the heat of the moment. I'm not somebody who bears grudges for years. I can forgive - indeed, sometimes I need to be the person to be forgiven - but I'm not somebody who thinks for 10 years, forever, 'I will
hate you'. Relations with people go up and down a little bit. Why? Because many things happen in the heat of the moment and you know it's not for definite. I had [arguments] not only with him but with other managers.”
Wenger will have a tough decision ahead of him, whether to play Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas or not. The Spaniard is battling a hamstring problem and has not yet been declared fit for selection; however, a late fitness test will decide his fate. Theo Walcott
on the other hand has been very impressive for the Gunners recently, especially in the Champions League and Wenger seems to have noticed. Walcott played a big role in the surprise victory over Partizan Belgrade and might be rewarded a start tonight.
With his recent performances, Walcott may very well have earned himself a place in the first team. Wenger praised Walcott and hinted that he would get more first team opportunities, he said,
“Frankly I can understand that because for me Theo Walcott is doing well. For me he is not an impact player, he is a regular player. At the moment he does not play as often as he should but he will play soon. In fairness, Theo is fantastic. His attitude
and behavior has been absolutely great.”
