Wenger admits uncertainty over Almunia’s future
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is not sure whether http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Almunia-c23386 wants to remain at the club or not.
The veteran goalkeeper last played for Arsenal in the 3-2 defeat to West Brom at the Emirates back in September. Injuries have hindered his return to the first team, giving youngsters Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny a chance to prove their worth.
Now that Manuel Almunia is finally ready for action, he finds himself down the pecking order at Arsenal. Manager Arsene Wenger prefers to start Fabianski in his place, leading to speculation on the 33-year-old’s future at the Emirates.
The Arsenal manager has conceded that the Spaniard could be leaving in the January transfer window. Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray and Malaga are all reportedly seeking the veteran goalkeeper’s signature.
Almunia’s contract with the London club runs out in 2012. So far, it doesn’t look as though Arsenal are trying to extend that contract. Asked whether the Spaniard would be leaving this January, Wenger said, “There is a small chance. Yes, I have had a chat
with him, but nothing is decided. We are in no-man's land at the moment on that front.”
Almunia is famously unreliable between the sticks, and it seems as though many Arsenal fans would be happy to see the back of him. The Spaniard has made some major errors over the past few seasons which, in many cases, have caused Arsenal to lose the match.
Admittedly, he has made some spectacular saves over the years; however, those are negated by some astonishing fumbles. Many pundits consider Manuel Almunia to be a liability in the Arsenal goal. In 107 appearances for the club, the 33-year-old has kept just
ten clean sheets.
Wenger has found the perfect replacement for the Spaniard in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wojciech-Szczesny-c36998 has also shown lots of promise after starting against Manchester United, making Almunia
the third choice keeper at Arsenal.
The veteran might just consider moving away from the Emirates to get a chance to play regular first team football. We will find out more in the coming weeks.
