Wenger backing side to improve
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is backing his team to improve upon their league position in the new Premier League season.
Arsenal are a side that have looked good in previous seasons but have always suffered many bad results that have stopped them rivalling the top clubs in England.
The team has not held the same dominance in England since the golden years when they were going for a whole season without losing a game. However, the boss has said that pre-season is going well and the side are going to do much better than they did last year.
There are many things that Arsenal can improve on and they will have to do so very quickly as the start of the season is only around two weeks away. However, Arsenal still have a very young side and this is where many people say the problems lay.
Room for improvement
There is room for improvement in many areas of the current Arsenal team. They are simply not consistent enough to challenge for the title because they seem unable to string together a long enough run of results.
There are too many basic errors in the Arsenal side. Sometimes the team just have to do the ugly things well but Arsenal are constantly trying to play perfect football, which isn't always possible.
Arsenal need to keep their calibre as a side and stay very stubborn in the transfer market. The whole issue of Cesc Fabregas demonstrates this point. They have many players who have developed and become world stars but Arsenal always end up allowing them to leave.
Wenger said: "I am very confident (we'll do better than last season). We know in England that the Premier League is the biggest league in the world and everybody invests a lot of money. We invest in our work, in our beliefs, in the quality of our behaviour and I am confident that will pay off. We finished third last year and we hope we can improve on that – but the race will be tough."
Tougher than ever
It will be tougher than ever before for Arsenal to try and stay in the top three places of the Premier League. Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have improved a great deal over the last two or three seasons and the old top four could soon become the top five or six.
The problem for Arsenal is that they have not matched the quality that other clubs have been bringing in to their squads. Arsenal do have the cash because they are one of the very few Premier League clubs making a profit but Wenger has never spent big money on a player since he joined the club.
A lot depends on whether the club can keep Cesc Fabregas who looks destined for a move to Barcelona. If they can keep the captain then it will go a long way to showing that Arsenal are looking to right some old wrongs that have always held them back.
Betting Advice
Arsenal always stand a chance of winning anything they take part in because they play better football than anyone else when they get things right. The problem is that this does not happen as often as it used to and this is the reason why you should be very wary about placing a lot of money on them to win the Premier League.
Wenger is not a naive manager but he is very stubborn and unless he changes a few areas of his thinking and starts bringing in the world class players that the club deserves then they won't be going anywhere quickly.
