Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger has gone on to confirm that the Gunners star attacker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873 is on the brink of putting pen to paper on a new contract with the North London club, as he is looking to extend his stay with the club.
It was previously believed that Walcott could be on his way out of the club in the summers, as the team and the player kept stalling on agreeing to terms on a new contract.
Walcott was looking to ask the team for more money, while the club just weren’t willing to meet his demands.
As a result, it was felt that Walcott would go on and eventually end up walking out of the Emirates, due to the club and the player not agreeing to terms of a contract extension.
However, all of that seems to have changed as the player is now on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new deal with the team, which could see him commit his future to the club for another five years or so.
Wenger is quite happy with the way things are going, and hopes to wrap up the negotiations shortly and present the good news to the clubs fans.
"We're on a good road with Theo's negotiations," the 63-year-old told reporters. "I'm more optimistic this week than last week. The discussions have progressed smoothly but slowly.”
"As long as nothing is signed, you are cautious. I'm optimistic we'll get to a happy conclusion."
It was believed that another reason for Walcott not wanting to stay, was because he wasn’t being played as a striker. However, Wenger has gone on to confirm that the player has no problems with playing on the wing and that his contract had no clause in it,
which claimed that he would be playing primarily as a striker from now on.
"I can see Theo Walcott playing more up front but he never made it a condition to sign or not," he added.
"He just wants to play. He is happy to play on the flank as well. I see him playing more up front"
