Wenger determined to win at Old Trafford
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger challenged his young Arsenal side to prove their hunger for success by beating Manchester United on Monday. Arsenal are currently on top of the English Premier League table, one point ahead of Manchester United, who have a game
in hand. The upcoming top of the table clash will be especially important, as it may very well determine who lifts the Premier League at the end of the season.
Arsenal breathed a sigh of relief yesterday as Chelsea drew 1-1 with Tottenham at White Hart Lane. The hosts took the lead in the first half, but Didier Drogba was brought on in the second half and the Ivoirian international equalized for the Blues. The
Blues would have gone on to win it if it weren’t for Drogba’s penalty miss. Hero turned villain, the oldest story in football. Chelsea are now at fourth place, following Manchester City’s victory at West Ham, earlier on Saturday.
The previously mentioned events have made the title race tighter than ever, which means there is no margin for error at the top. This is exactly why Arsenal cannot afford anything less than a win and Wenger seems to be aware of that. Manchester United have
the edge on the Gunners, with a match in hand, they can afford to be more comfortable. In the battle of the two current top teams, there are not only three points on the line, but a place at the top of the League.
Arsenal have failed to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford for over four years now. However, when they did get a positive result at the home of the Red Devils, Wenger’s side went on to win the Premier League. This gave the French manager some hope and
he urged his side to deliver against United. He said while speaking to reporters,
“We have an opportunity to show how good we are - that is what you want in life.”
He added, “Let's go without any preconceived ideas, not [thinking] about any weakness of Manchester United, nor about any weakness from us, just let's focus on the day, to give your best, play with belief, play for each other and we have a good chance
to beat anybody. I know that my team will be really up for it, and I always have great belief in my players - I know how hungry they are for success and am sure that will come out in the game.”
