http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wojciech-Szczesny-c36998 will be starting in goal for the North London club, as he will continue to be the team’s first choice keeper, despite his howler against Southampton.
The keeper came into the side following a two game wait, due to a rib injury. During the game, the keeper didn’t look like his certain self and it seemed like he would cause a blunder at any point in time.
At the end of the first half, the keeper went on to make the mistake that cost Arsenal to end their spell of not letting their opponents score.
The team’s number one came forth and tried to collect a routine cross, but for some odd reason, he ended up spilling the ball into the path of an on rushing Southampton player, who then slotted the ball into the back of an empty net.
Despite this rather inexplicable mistake, Wenger has gone on to confirm that Szczesny will continue to be the team’s number one choice keeper, as he feels he is the best that the team have at the moment.
He told the club's official website: "Wojciech is number one unless I change my mind. That is clear. That’s why he came back in goal.”
"You cannot change a goalkeeper every time he makes a simple mistake, because then you have three bad keepers. The confidence is needed."
The manager also went on to claim that perhaps it was the form that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vito-Mannone-c36276 displayed, which caused Szczesny to perform so terribly.
Mannone went on to keep two back to back clean sheets with the Gunners, and it seemed like he was finally ready to contest for a spot in the first team.
"It’s a special position where confidence is needed," the 62 year old Frenchman said.
"Maybe he put himself a little bit under pressure because he knows Mannone played well at Stoke and at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. I think he played better in the second half."
It is now up to Szczesny to continue and prove his true worth to the team’s fans, as he looks to repay the faith the manager and the supporters of the club have shown in him.
