Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger believes that finishing in the fourth spot does not ensure Champions League football and that is why he wants his team to try and secure the third spot in the league table.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 finished fourth last season and went on to face Udinese in the qualification rounds for the Champions League. Despite the team making it through those games with the Italian side, it is safe to say, the team were given a run for their money by the
Italians.
Wenger is well aware of this fact and as a result, the manager has gone on to insist that finishing in the fourth spot might just not be enough for the team.
When talking about his team’s season, the Frenchman is quoted to have said: "Looking at the quality in Europe, it is going up, for any English team it is difficult. I have felt that for a few years now"
"Where it [Champions League qualification from fourth place] was just a formality before, now it is not.”
"With Udinese we had two hard games, they are a top team in Serie A."
The manager has gone on to admit that him and his squad are ready to fight all the way to the end and are going to mount a challenge on Tottenham who are sitting in the third spot.
However, the Gunners boss also went on to insist that his team need to play with consistency since a small slip up could see them fall out of the top four all together.
The North London club’s manager ended by stating: "I try to do my best and just know that I am ready to fight.”
"At the moment for Tottenham, it [third place] is still in their hands. It will be down to consistency.”
It is now a wait to see just how Arsenal end their season and whether they can finish in the third spot or not.
