Arsenal’s manager, Arsene Wenger has admitted that he is looking to bring back the Invincible mentality to his squad and hopes for the team to get back to winning ways in the near future, as he hopes to end the team’s barren run.
Arsenal’s Invincible team, which went on to go forty nine games without suffering defeat, has been hailed as the best team over the twenty years that the Premier League has been in existence.
A very delighted Wenger admitted that he was proud of the legacy that he had created with that team and with the record that the team had set. However, he is now looking to try and get his new squad to replicate the success of his former team.
When talking about his Invincible team, Wenger is reported to have said: “I am proud of [winning the award] and very happy because I told the players at the time they could achieve something special once we were champions by being invincible”
“They did it, but at the time they did not realise how much it would mean in the future. I am very proud of that.”
Arsenal have not yet won a trophy, following their FA Cup win in 2005, as a result, many believe that it is high time for the team to get their act together and try and get back on track.
Wenger seems to feel the same way and expects his side to pick up the pace and prove just how good they can be this coming season.
“My target is to get back to that level,” he added. “I feel we are not far from coming back to fight for the championship, and let's hope we can show that next season.”
This season, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 ended the season in the third spot and barely managed to secure Champions League football. However, for the team to climb up from the seventeenth spot to the third, goes to show that they have the quality to be rather destructive and
that it is now only a matter of finding consistency to maintain those abilities.
