http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429’s manger, Arsene Wenger has gone on to reveal that he was looking to sign Raphael Varane, before the young defender went on to join Real Madrid instead.
The young defender went on to move to the Spanish club way back in 2011, back when he was not rated as being one of the best upcoming players. However, he has now managed to appear for the French national team as well, and Wenger feels that he could have
thrived at the Emirates.
He admitted to having watched him back when he was a player for Lens, but also wonders why the North London club failed to move in and capture him.
"He was at Lens and we might well have caught him there," the Gunners boss said in a recent interview.
"You have to ask yourself why this player is not playing for Arsenal.
However, Wenger admitted that he is quite happy just watching the player grow at Madrid, since he feels Jose Mourinho has been able to get the best out of him, which is something that Wenger really appreciates.
"I'm happy for him because he's carving out a role at one of the world's best clubs. [Madrid coach Jose] Mourinho has chosen him to step in.”
"It was a risk for Real Madrid to sign him at his age but, when you have such talent, you can overcome everything. His next challenge is managing the increased media exposure on him, especially now he is in the French national side."
The youngster has managed to make a very impressive twenty appearances for Real Madrid so far this season. He has also managed to score one goal for the team, which came in a highly contested match against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in the Copa del Ray. That game eventually
went on to end as a one all draw between both the teams.
Now with Wenger having admitted to have failed at bringing in the talented youngster, it is a wonder if the manager will go on and make any transfers in the summers. He has plenty of time to think over what he wants to do, and it is going to be interesting
to see just what he does.
