Werden Bremen boss admits side will find Tottenham Hotspur game tough
Werder Bremen manager Thomas Schaaf admits that his side will find life difficult against Tottenham Hotspur when the sides clash in a UEFA Champions League group stage game at White Hart Lane on Wednesday
24 November.
The German outfit are struggling with nine injuries and a 10th player ruled out by suspension, but they are also suffering from a lack of form. They have won only three of their last 16 games in all competitions
and have yet to score a single goal in November.
They are also languishing in 12th place in the Bundesliga, 10 points behind third-placed Bayer Leverkusen in the last of the Champions League qualification places.
As a result, Schaaf admits that his side are up against it in their encounter with English Premier League side Spurs, whom they drew 2-2 with at the Weserstadion in September, and conceded that it would
take “something special” to beat Harry Redknapp's men.
He told UEFA's official website: "If you look at the players we have injured they could make up a good team, but we will cope. We will not complain and everyone will give their best. You have to be honest
and say something special would have to happen for us to make it through to the next round.
"More important to me is how we play and that we give our best to turn things round. We have to concentrate even though we know it is unlikely we will get through. I don't think Tottenham make many mistakes
defensively. We have to show courage and you can't do that by holding back too much. We have to go for it, be courageous going forward and show what we can do."
Werder are currently in last place in Group A. They have a slim chance of progressing to the first knockout phase of the Champions League if they can beat Spurs and defending European champions Inter Milan,
but only if other results go their way.
