Werder Bremen Sporting Director Klaus Allofs expects a tough derby against Hannover- Bundesliga news
Werder Bremen Sporting Director Klaus Allofs has admitted that it will not be easy against Hannover in the weekend’s North German derby. He stated Hannover have definitely improved as a team in the last couple of years but still it will not be easy for them to win as Bremen have also had a fantastic start to the current campaign.
Die Werderaner will take on the high flying Hannover in the next league fixture to be played at the AWD-Arena. The hosts are coming from an impressive 2-1 win against Vorskla Poltava in the UEFA Europa League and will definitely be high on confidence whereas Bremen are undefeated in their last five league outings.
Werder Bremen have had a fantastic start to the current campaign as they are only three points adrift of leaders Bayern Munich in second place with 16 points after winning five out of the seven games played.
Allofs has admitted that those days are gone when only Werder Bremen dominated in the north as Hannover have emerged as a strong side in the last couple of years. Die Roten finished fourth in the Bundesliga last season and qualified for the Europa League and have continued their form from last season.
“Of course the balance of power in the north has shifted and Hannover have caught up a lot, but when we are talking about the title for the number one in the north, then we are definitely quite a way ahead,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The Sporting Director claimed that although it is not as big as a derby as Hamburg, but the result still matters a lot as they have to keep up with leaders Bayern Munich.
“It is a long process and I think that Hamburg and Werder still have the better claims (to being number one). But I know that this can be viewed differently in different regions,” he further added in the interview.
The derby will be played at the AWD-Arena as the home side look to continue the splendid start to the campaign.
