Werder Bremen part company with captain Torsten Frings – Bundesliga news
Bundesliga outfit, Werder Bremen, have parted company with veteran midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Torsten-Frings-c35477. The 34-year-old’s contract at the German club was set to expire at the end of the season and the club has decided not to offer the veteran a new contract.
The former German International was reluctant to leave the club following a forgettable campaign but has now come to terms with the fact that he is no more in Bremen’s plans for the next season.
While talking to the media, the 34-year-old said, "Bremen did not offer me a new contract. I must accept this," he said, before adding that he wanted to leave the club after a more successful season as the 2010/11 campaign has not been a good one.
Torsten Frings first played for Werder Bremen in 1997 and left the club in 2002 for Borussia Dortmund. After winning the Bundesliga campaign with Dortmund, Frings joined Bayern Munich and never really settled at the Bavarian club. In 2005, he returned to
Werder Bremen.
This season, the German has come under heavy criticism from fans who believe that the veteran is motivated by money. However, Frings denied all these accusations and said that it wasn’t true (that money motivated him to stay at Bremen). He also said that
he never received an offer from the club that he rejected or accepted, as he never received an offer in the first place.
Frings is yet to make a decision about his future but has admitted that he is not looking to retire right now as he believes that he has two or three more years of football left in him. It has been suggested that Frings might make a return to Werder Bremen
one day to take up a coaching position should the need arise.
It has also been reported that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VfB-Stuttgart-c40879 are keen on signing the former German International in the upcoming summer transfer window. Though the veteran midfielder is no more a live wire in the centre of the defence, his experience might be useful for
any Bundesliga side that chooses to sign him.
