Werder Bremen’s defensive worries have received a slightest of boosts with the addition of a centre-back to their line-up for the 2011/12 season. Andreas Wolf has signed a two-year contract with the River Islanders and was delighted with his new challenge.
The news was refreshing from the club’s point of view as they have been experiencing a lot of injury troubles especially at the back. The player spent nine years at FC Nuremberg before parting ways with them in the early hours of Sunday.
Bremen’s experienced defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Per-Mertesacker-c29680, had previously enthused that the club need to bring in fresh pair of legs in order to sort out the defensive problems. He was pleased with the recruitment of Wolf and reckoned that the 29-year-old could prove
valuable to Bremen’s ambitions. The player himself was delighted with the move and was looking forward to making a significant impact at Weserstadion.
Wolf mentioned that Bremen are an impressive squad with a number of young and talented players who could inspire the Green-Whites to achieve new heights in the upcoming season. Bremen coach, Thomas Schaaf, was also pleased with the addition of an experienced
defender to their ranks and was confident about the defender’s success at the club.
In an interview to the club’s website, the defender mentioned, "I am very pleased that everything went this fast. Werder first made an approach last week and I really wanted to take this chance. I can make the next step forward at this club and become a
leader at this young team."
The Leninabad-born player started his professional career with Nuremberg in 2002 after spending six years in the club’s youth setup. Since making his way into Die Legende senior side, Wolf managed 213 Bundesliga appearances, netting seven goals during the
process.
Werder Bremen will kick start their new campaign on Saturday, August 6 against FC Kaiserslautern, after finishing the 2010/11 season 13th on the table. The Manager hopes that Bremen will brush aside whatever happened in the past and present a
much better challenge as compared to that of the last season.
