The Bundesliga outfit has bagged the Nigerian forward from Brugge on a four-year deal that will run until the summer of 2016, and he is poised to make his first appearance for the club against Hamburg.
Werder Bremen captured Joseph Akpala from Club Brugge on a long-term contract and the striker has revealed his joy at signing for the Bundesliga giants. Bremen were after the attacker for a long time and have got their target finally.
They will most likely hand him his debut over the weekend clash with Hamburg on Saturday.
The German team were defeated 4-2 in the DFB-Pokal cup and that raised suspicions on whether they will still be aiming to get the frontman. The River Islanders have been interested in the Nigerian player since 2009 but a move never
materialised until now.
Akpala also wished to ply his trade in the German League but a chance never came up for grabs.
"Three years ago, Werder Bremen started approaching me. Ever since then I had the desire to play in the Bundesliga,” Joseph Akpala was quoted as saying in an interview.
The hit-man is a big supporter of the domestic league and respected all the Bundesliga teams he faced in the various competitions. He has also seen his friends move to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 and resume their footballing careers there.
"I have become a keen follower of Bundesliga football in the meantime. I also experienced some of my closest mates moving to clubs in the Bundesliga,” he mused.
The 26-yaer-old player has competed against the German teams previously. A highlight in his career is their game with Hannover in the formerly known UEFA Cup and he admits that the atmosphere was brilliant.
"I had been playing against sides from the Bundesliga with Club Brugge in the past, most notably against Hannover in the Europa League. I know what it is like," he finally concluded.
