Werder Bremen sign defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos on-loan from Genoa- Bundesliga news
Werder Bremen have secured the signing of Genoa central defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos on a one-year loan deal. The German giants will have the option of buying the player at the end of the season, given his performances are
up to the mark.
The deal to sign the defender had been in the pipeline for quite some time as Bremen were prepared for a loan deal due the financial problems whereas the Italian side wanted a permanent transfer. However, both clubs reached an
agreement for a loan deal and the Greek international will be playing in the Bundesliga next season.
Werder Bremen’s Sporting Director Klaus Allofs praised the player and claimed that he will surely be a valuable addition to the squad. He stated that the defender has immense experience as he has played at the highest level in

The Director admitted that Die Werderaner were interested in signing the player during his AC Milan days as he has great tackling skills and pace.
“He's a young player and has already gained some experience at Genoa and in the Greek national team. When we heard that he was not being used at AC Milan, we immediately expressed interest. With his pace, his strength, and tackling,
he will certainly help us,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.

“After initial discussions with Klaus Allofs and Thomas Schaaf, it was immediately clear to me that I would accept the offer from Werder. Now I will integrate into the team and help as soon as possible,” he concluded.
Werder Bremen will start their Bundesliga campaign against FC Kaiserslautern at home on Saturday, August 6.
