Werder Bremen’s Per Mertesacker could be on his way out – Bundesliga news
Werder Bremen sporting director, Klaus Allofs, has revealed that star defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Per-Mertesacker-c29680, could be on his way out of the club this summer. The defender spent the last three months of the 2010/11 season away from the pitch due to an injury and recently
made a return to his club’s pre-season friendly against English Premier League side, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019. The River Islanders won the game by a 1-0 margin.
Allofs told that every player is important to the club and keeping in mind the club’s poor financial condition, any decent offer will be accepted for the defender.
The director reserved praise for the stopper, saying that the 26-year-old has always been instrumental at the back and the player’s possible departure would be huge loss for the club. However, he has urged the centre back to stay focused on the league encounters
amidst uncertainty.
In an interview to a local sports channel, Allofs added, "This applies to all players, including Per [Mertesacker]. We gave them the promise to consider any serious offers. We have satisfied all positions in the team, so we can cope with a sale, but I would
not like to let him go."
He confirmed about receiving interest in acquiring the defender’s services from most of the European sides and there is a possibility that the tall German could be on his way to another Bundesliga outfit. Interest from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 has also been reported and nothing
can be ruled out at this point in time.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hannover-96-c39492 player joined the River Islanders in 2006 and has managed 142 league appearances so far, netting 12 goals in return. Before landing at the Weserstadion, the centre back made 74 Bundesliga appearances for Hannover and bagged seven goals.
The player made his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 debut in 2004 and has 75 international caps to his name so far with a solitary goal under his belt. He won a UEFA Cup runners-up medal with Bremen in 2009 and clinched the DFB Pokal during the same year.
