Werder Bremen’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos hopeful for a successful season ahead- Bundesliga news
Werder Bremen defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has stated that he is hopeful of a successful season ahead after a considerably good start to the ongoing season. The Greek international is confident that his team will qualify
for Europe at the end of the current campaign and is banking on the club’s good recent form.
The former AC Milan defender has featured in every Bundesliga game for the German side this season so far and has helped his side in winning two of the three games played in this campaign.
Papastathopoulos claimed that Bremen should continue the great form and most importantly win the home games as they are vital. He insisted that the team has some very good players and they are well capable of performing at the
highest stage and fighting for the honours.
“We must win our home games. If we succeed, the road to Europe is free. We have a very good team with experienced players, strong talent and a capable coach,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The player was signed on a one-year loan deal from Italian side Genoa. The Greek admitted that he wants to make an impact at the club and wants to cement his place in the starting line-up throughout the season.
“I am not come to stay only one year. My goal is to play a major role. I want to make a name in Bremen!” he continued.
The 23-year old admitted that it is a challenge to play on the right side of defence as he is a natural central defender. He added that he has to show his versatility throughout the season and should learn to play in different
positions to help his side.
“I am a central defender. But I think it's important to be able to play different positions. This makes it easier for the coach,” he concluded.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos made only five appearances for AC Milan last season and was unable to make an impact at the club. He has 20 international caps to his name and is yet to score his first goal for the country.
