Were Giraffes ever transported by rail?

Some toy and model train manufacturers had models of them. I suspect that were fictional like the aquarium car.

  1. hmm thats an interesting question, i can just imagine a trail going over Africa with like 20 giraffe heads sticking out


  2. The circus.  Some of the actually still come to town by rail.

  3. Yep.  Circus train.

    Ringling Bros. still operates two circus trains, the red unit and the blue unit.  There is a third circus train operated by a different circus today, but I do not recall the name.

    But, I have never seen a giraffe's head sticking out the top of a stock car, outside of those produced by Lionel.  A giraffe would be beaned the first old tunnel or low clearance they came to.
