Someone told me today that they were disqualified.. is that true? Or has it still not been determined whether the girls were of age.

  1. nothing has changed

  2. None of them were disqualified; they were all old enough to compete.

I know they look young, but here Korea many women look much younger than they are, and the same is true of Chinese women.

I know several women in their 20's who are routinely mistaken for 14 or 15 by Westerners. I think all of the speculation about the Chinese Gymnastics team ages is a form of racism.

  3. Not that I know of, I think there is still an investigation by the IOC going on. I read an article yesterday stating it was highly doubtful that their Medals would be stripped, it would be disrespectful to the host country (that was what the article said).

  4. No the IOC will most likely do nothing about it.  They are now talking about getting rid of the age requirement rule.  If they did strip away the medal it would open Hugh flood of other complaints.

The real problem is that many countries have a very poor medical records system and they really do not know the ages of some of their athletes.

This has been a common problem every March at the World Cross Country meet with the Kenyan Junior National team. People claim that these runners are really older than the claim to be and should be in the adult division, not the junior division (17 and under)  stemming back decades to this like events like the 1972 men’s basket ball goal medal match against Russia and numerous other issues. They will however have to rethink that Youth Olympics that they are starting up in 2010 in Singapore for this exact group of individuals. 12-16 years of age.

  5. For now..No. Stay tuned.

  6. NO, and there wont be. There's no basis for suspicion at all. Its just some jealous Americans being the sore losers they are, accusing Asians of cheating because people are better then them. By creating a media storm and insisting a background check of the Chinese gymnasts is the same as discriminating against Asians, who are generally younger looking than Westerners. That is Racism. Just because of a few gold medals the Americans have shown the world their true colors. What gives the American the right to set the standards anyway? I say its the Americans who look old for their age!!

  7. I agree with Greenman.

I am 22 and I have been told many times that I look 16 or 17.

    Also, innocent until proven guilty.

  8. no
