Like the last month of pregnancy, when they check for dilation and effacement, were you told there was no progress but then still had the baby within that week?

I'm just wondering. I'm 36 weeks, 3 days and was told she's not coming any time soon. She's head down but not far down, if that makes sense. Thanks!

  1. My water broke at work when I was 35 weeks, with absolutely no warning!  I had been to see the doctor less than 2 weeks before that and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.  Surprise surprise!  Hope your labor goes well :)

  2. hows this one on for size. i was only a little efaced at 39 wks.  39 wks, 5 days i went walking with my hunnie.  i felt like i had to pee. and pee again. he wanted to go out one last time before the baby came, so i told him to go with a friend of ours i didn't feel good.  i didn't want dinner (and i ate like a million times a day when i was pregnant) and i had to pee. he came home and i had to pee (notice im not drinking anything).  i got up and i had peed my pants, but i knew i hand't.  (dont be grossed out) i smelled it and it wasnt pee.  (at this point it was 11:45pm sat night)  i had to 'pee' all night i went to the hospital in the morning they didn't really think my water had broken, did some test...and it had....

funny tho, i had only had 2 contractions....now its almost 9am on sunday and i figure is started somewhere like 4pm sat.  i wasn't dialated, or more effaced then when i was at the dr the previous monday tho i had dropped.  they gave me that awful drug pitocin all day long and i got not one but two spinals becuase of the incompitent anetheseologists.  and my daughter was born at 12:06am monday

so what this tells you is, they come when they darn well please.  even when drs try and hurry it up they will still come when they want the only way you are goin gto get them to come exatly when you want is if you cut them out!!!!!

best of luck, try to relax cause it will be a long time befre you get to. and if someone tells you it doesn't hurt they are lieing.  what they dont tell you is it is SO worth it :-)  enjoy!

  3. Around the same time in my first pregnancy, the doctor said, "Well, nothing is happening yet, but at this stage, that doesn't mean much.  You could have the baby in your arms by this time tomorrow."

I went into a panic.  "Wait, what do you mean tomorrow?  The nursery isn't ready.  I haven't bought diapers.  My desk is piled high at work.  It can't be tomorrow!"

She talked me off the ledge, and indeed, it took nearly three more weeks until my son arrived - still early, but not crazy-making early!

  4. Both times.  The second time, my midwife told me that once I felt like I had supportive people around me (my husband was gone and I had no friends in the god-forsaken city), then I would have my baby.

In a few days, my college girlfriends showed up on my doorstep out of nowhere.  My sister was on her way to my house too.  I literally went into labor while my friends sat around at caught up and while my sister drove to my house.

It helped me to think about opening up like a flower.  Just tell yourself to open up like a flower, and visualize a flower blossoming.  It sounds corny, but it helped me.

Best wishes.  I'm 37 weeks today, and that flower is all I think about!  :-)

Why the heII do they do internal exams just so they can tell us that it makes no difference how dilated or closed up we are?  I've refused them so far.

  5. lol....I went to the doctors for regular visit (internal) on Saturday morning at 11:00 A.M.  And I went into labor at 1:00.

I guess I labored from 1:00 PM Saturday to Monday 5:00 AM.  The contractions were regular but not earthshaking.  Went to the hospital at 7:00 AM and baby was born at 8:09 PM Monday.

But you would have thought that the doctor would have known I was that close to labor (2 hrs).

    Hmmmmm....maybe he wasn't a real doctor.....

  6. I don't know if this helps but the day my brother was born, my mom was told she wasn't ready to give birth.  She walked up and down the hallways of the hospital for hours and they still told her she wasn't dilated enough.  But then, a few hours later, my brother was born!

  7. I was told that I wasn't dilated or effaced...but I was also told that if I didn't have a baby by that Friday (40 wks) I was to be induced. (because high blood pressure and a slight amount of protien in the urine).....When I went in to be induced, I still had made any progress!

  8. I was dilated 1 cm for 2 weeks and was told I still had at least a week to go.  That night my mucus plug came out and 20 minutes after that my water broke.  You just never know when it will happen.......:)
