Actually, hat brims are handles so you have a way of picking up a hat and putting it on your head.  Without a brim you wouldn't be able to grab the hat or hold it.

As for pants and thighs; if you have hairy thighs you wear long pants, but if you have nice supple thighs connected to a great butt then you wear hotpants ... and if you wear hotpants the hope is that you're a girl.
