I'm looking to build a box rail in my backyard and someone said I should use HDPE for the top. Is this a good idea? And were can I get it?

  1. HDPE would be good for a top.  It;s the same material as the base of the board.   Wax it up and start sliding.

You can order it from Carlson Design in Tulsa, OK.

    4'x8'x1/8" sheets are $38

They are in the middle of the page, under Vacuum Tables.

  2. Ive never built a box but i'd think that would work great.  Better than some plywood at least.

Try this website.  I dont know where you live so i cant fully help but this might work.

or you could go ask Home Depot if they have any.  Home Depot is always awsome. =)

  3. look for Formica. We have used it on many Jibs over the years and works great and a ton cheaper. You can find it at any home improvment store.

  4. If you ask at Home Depot, they will say they don't have any HDPE (high density poly ethelene). But they do have a product made from HDPE - it is those composite "decking boards" like Trex and the other brands that make plastic lumber that is used to make decks. It is usually mixed with other materials (like wood) but would work.

If you want some plain white HDPE look for a plastic supply store in the phone book - you might be surprised.

    Good Luck
