  1. Here are some sites to teach you how to sew.

    http://homeschooling.gomilpitas.com/expl...

    http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns

    http://www.sewing.org/index.html

    http://www.craftandfabriclinks.com/sewin...

And a search you can check through.

I hope these places can help you learn to sew.

  2. Look in the yellow pages.

  3. Check with community colleges and school districts... ask for the adult education coordinator.  Check with sewing machine shops, fabric shops, and (depending on your age) groups like 4H and scouting.

If all else fails, get a copy of the Studio Sewing Skills DVD Connie Crawford just released in June, and the supplemental package.  It starts with threading a sewing machine and goes through all the stuff of a first sewing course for fashion designers -- she taught sewing, patternmaking and draping at FIDM in Los Angeles for many years before retiring to work with those of us who sew at home.

  4. Try phoning some of the private seamtresses or tailors and see if they give private lessons.. You can also check the local community colleges.. Sometimes they offer classes.. Good luck..

  5. Call or go to your local Bernina or Janome Sales shop. They always have classes of some sort going on. They have lots of beginner classes.

The reason behind the sales shops is to get you to sewing so you want the machine you have been using for beginner lessons. They also usually have really pretty fabrics and lots of patterns available for sale.

Classes generally cost only the amount to cover supplies, sometimes they have in VIP Guest personalities to help with the classes and these do cost a bit more, but how many times would you ever get to meet the top fashion designers or fabric designers or Quilt ladies like Debbie Mumm?

You won't find these listed on the internet. You might luck into them in the local newspaper in the advertising sections, but mostly you have to go to the stores to find out when the classes are and what the cost is

Sewing is a very enjoyable hobby and is necessary for some of us as the fashions don't fit correctly and/or we want to do our own thing! And then there is mending so we don't have to toss a fav out the door in the trash..
