  1. TSC, co-op, ... pretty much anywhere you can get horse supplies. You can also order one off the internet. I'll get you some links... :-)

  2. You can use a bycicle hemet when you first start riding. If you are really serious about riding go to a tack shop or shop online.

  3. Where can i buy a whoreback riding helmet?

  4. Try one of the online tack and equipment companies like Stateline Tack, Dover Saddlery, Dressage Extensions, Phelan's, and the like. They all have dot com websites, and some of them offer free shipping. Another way to get a good helmet is to go online and order from one of the farm and  vet supply companies, such as Valley Vet Supply or Jeffers Vet Supply. Make sure that you get a helmet that is ASTM-SEI certified ( look for this designation next to the helmet's description in the catalog or online) and which is NOT an item of apparell only. 2 of the best brands out there are the Troxel, and the IRH. I use an IRH myself when I ride- it's gold in color, has a brim to help keep the sun out of my eyes, and it's vented for comfort, which is a plus right now, considering how hot it is outside. IRH's are available in a wide variety of colors and styles.

As one of the other writers mentioned, NEVER BUY a helmet on E-bay !!! You will never know that helmet's history if you do, because e-bay has no disclosure rules for helmets. For all you know, the helmet you just got could have already been through a fall- and it will provide no protection whatever. Nowadays, most helmets work by partially self-destructing on impact from a fall- and this damage may or may not ( it usually isn't) be visible from the outside afterwords. A helmet like this must NEVER be used again- it needs to be destroyed and replaced immediately !!! There are unscrupulous people who will sometimes try to sell a helmet like this online for whatever they can get for it- and the buyer has no way of knowing what he's getting. Please, for your own safety, DON'T make this mistake.  Hope this helps.

  5. The best place to buy a riding hat is from a tack shop.  They will know how to fit the hat to your head correctly and will be able to advise you as to what type of hat you need.

Ask your riding school if they can recommend anywhere local to you.

I would actively discourage anyone from buying a hat from a shop where you can just pick one up and buy it without it being correctly fitted.

Also you should NEVER buy a second-hand hat.  You don't know if the hat has been involved in an accident and could therefore be damaged.

  6. You could try buying one on Ebay or go to a riding school where you live and buy one there.
