  1. Make sure that you buy flax seeds refrigerated instead of those on the shelf because they go rancid quickly. It is better if you have a coffee grinder or seed grinder and can grind them a little at a time. You should not consume them whole because they will go right through you! However, there are some recipes which use them whole in dehydrated crackers. You can sprinkle them in oatmeal, yogurt (if you consume dairy, or in soy yogurt), and  salads. Flax oil should NEVER be heated!

  2. You can find them at Whole Foods & Trader Joe's. I'm finding that more and more grocery stores are starting a "health food" section. I recommend getting the ground flax seeds. You can add flax seeds to just about anything. Also, when you're baking, it's easy to just add a tablespoon of flax.

  3. you can purchase flax see online at:

I put flax on my yogurt, cereal, breads, and sometimes when I cook pasta.

  4. I buy my flax seeds in Shaws. You can use it in breads (whole/ground), cereal (ground), or sprinkled in anything else. It also comes in oils.

Flaxseeds are VERY healthy for you. They contain high amounts of fiber and Omega-3. Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid and good for your heart. Typically it is found in meat with the exception of a few plant based products. Most people drink fish oil for their Omega-3 but flax seeds is 6 times richer in it.

  5. you can sprinkle flax seeds on your salad or on your cereal, but I've heard that you should buy the ground stuff because ground flax seed is more easily absorbed in your body than the seeds.

oh and you can buy it in specialty grocery stores and some health food stores.  Trader Joe's and Whole foods will have it for sure.

  6. I take flax seed and warm (not hot) water in a food processor & blend them for an egg substitiute in baked goods.

flax seed oil makes good salad dressing mixed with a little balsamic vinegar, fresh basil, lemon zest, salt & pepper.
