I would like to recommend you to try this tool: Pavtube DVD Ripper as i have ever used it. It works really well. Why not have a look and a free trial at first? Here is the link:

A lot of free converters, if they don't have a proper decoder and encoder attached will do a hatchet job to make it work.

You can try iSkysoft DVD Ripper for Mac. It's a great one-click solution. For whatever reason, the video and audio of the output files that are converted by some dvd ripper are not synchronous. But iSkysoft works really well, default encoding is 192/44 and the quality is excellent. The trial version should be fully functional for what you want to do.
