  1. lol nahima my mare is a darin skip grand daughter, and pacific bailey grand daughter they are nice horses, but i only paid $600 for my mare and shes worth every penny and then some. normally i would agree that you get what you pay for, but if you look with your eyes open and can avoid buying with your heart you can find good horses cheap. i had to drive 4 hours into amish country to find my mare, people sometimes ell good horses cheap through no fault of the horses. people lose jobs, get sick, get pregnant, husbands run off- life happens, you just have to have a good eye to shift through the ones that are bad to find the few gems.

  2. Horses for $800 are all over the place.  Go to your local livestock auction and see what the prices are like there.  Check out websites with classifieds like http://www.freehorseads.com/class/horse_... or http://canterusa.org/newengland/sale/tra... .

Remember most horses have a listed price and a sale price, so don't be turned off by listings higher than $800, you can most likely haggle the price down.

  3. Try the glue factory. No... seriously.... I would suggest running a small ad in the classifies stating you're looking for a horse with the price range listed.

  4. Try contacting the ASPCA they should get you one for cheep or nothing from the pregnant mares urine industry.

  5. dreamhorse.com

    horsetopia.com

    agdirect.com

  6. try slaughter auctions...they have horses for really cheap. ik it sounds weird but seriouly some people have no hearts and just send their horses there because they dont want them anymore. but buy one from there turn it into an amazing horse and remake his/her life perfect again. some ads on equine.com or any horse classified webstie have horse ads for cheap if the horse must be sold quickly. or you can also try your local racetrack. tb's are great for any disipline, especially if your looking into the hunter/jumper or eventing discipline. but watchout if you get horses off the treat, ik there cheap and all, but a lot of them have injuries. some dont, but if you plan on getting one that has an injury dont forget about all of the vet bills. good luck with finding your horse.

  7. What do you want the horse for?  If you are after a horse that you can ride, to what level does the horse need to be trained?  A highly trained horse will cost you a lot more than $800.

If you are after a racehorse, again good luck, most thoroughbred sales have a minimum selling price of about $1,000.

My best suggestion is that you look in magazines that are aimed at horse riders, over here we have Horse and Hound, Your Horse, etc but I don't know what the US equivalent would be.

  8. You know instead of worrying about the money, save up more and look for a better bred horse. I have been through $500 - $900 horses and you get what you pay for. I'll tell you this. If you want a smooth ride and safer mounts....don't settle for a cheap horse. There is a reason for cheap ones and that being a problem, whether vices , or health problems... I paid $1500.00 for a colt out of Skipper W line , Darin Ship was his Father and if you read up on him you will find that he was a great work horse. My horse has a great disposition and a wonderful work attitude.Willing to do anything and loves to get attention.I will say horses are a herd animal and it is best to start with one horse so not to have a problem with conflicts while training .  good luck as I dont know if you know much about horses but they are not like puppies.
