  1. this is the 21st century nothing is priceless. priceless objects cost you an arm, a leg, and both testicles.

really...life isn't like bloodsport where your sensei gives you a katana. if he did, it is probably a family or style heirloom and you must earn such things by being either (and most probably) family (the japanese especially have an almost silly respect for family, their elders, and their ancestors...very serious stuff to them...infatc that's what shintoism is...reverence for your bloodline, heritage, etc)  or a top disciple...not just a student, not just a good student...not just a great student...but  a lifelong, completely loyal disciple...often times living with your instructor for many years training daily. basically...don't hold your breath, it isnt likely to happen.

now if you want good swords...be very very careful...the majority of sites and magazines you can buy from arent so good...if you buy a $100 sword....you are only going to get $100 worth of sword or less, it's a fact. i paid over $100 for a set and when i got them ...they are so cheap you can literally bend the blades with your fingers. and no they're not spring steel or "wushu" steel. they just suck lol

http://www.imperialweapons.com (they have a good handmade katana reasonably priced)

    these are good sites.

    good luck

ps...you have no business buying a real, sharp live katana (shinken) ...unless you've been taught to use one first. most of the time you will start with a bokken (wooden sword)...then progress to a dull edge sword, then finally to shinken, or a live blade. some arts such as some iaido/battojutsu styles never get to live blade training because it isn't necessary for them to.

seriously, i've seen skilled practitioners cut themselves. there is actually a video on youtube of a martial arts instructor slicing a carrot or something over a students throat.....he ended up slicing the students throat. so dont be stupid ok.

  3. a sword like that usually finds you

  4. try at http://www.handmadesword.com

a professional seller for swords, various for selection.

    Good luck!

  5. go to Okinawa and try to find a sushi chef called Hattori Hanzo.

the trick is to convince him to make you a sword

just say you have business to settle with a man named bill that should usually do the trick

  6. Priceless. Can you afford priceless? I doubt it since there are not very many who can. Try a museum. That is where many of the family swords in Japan are kept. As a matter of fact, If you are Japanese you have to be rich just to keep a sword in your house. The permits to keep them are sky high.

  7. Try stealing Gordon Ramseys chef knife. lol
